Playgroup

The Port Macquarie Steiner community runs regular playgroup sessions for 0-5 year olds each Tuesday from 9:30am – 11:30am. Our Little Bowerbirds playgroup is an introduction to Steiner Education and can be a place to meet other like-minded parents and share in the journey of parenting. The aim of our playgroup is to develop a sanctuary of safe play for children in order for them to engage and learn through creative play and to develop social and emotional skills through imitation, story and song.

Playgroup can be a chance to nourish our little ones with opportunities to experience beauty, creativity and wonder. We use beautiful, natural play materials such as wood, wool and silk and many of the toys have been hand made by members of the Port Macquarie Steiner community.

The sessions always follow the same rhythm and all elements contribute to an environment of warmth and stability where the children are free to unfold and develop their imagination and sense of wonder and interest in their world.

Kindergarten

Expressions of interests are open for 2019 for Kindergarten, Class 1 and 2.

We are committed to helping a young child make a comfortable transition into school, and discussing your individual needs. We recommend that children enter kindergarten in the year they are turning six, although we are taking enquiries for children turning 5 before July. In these cases we will monitor their progress and wellbeing as the year progresses before discussing their individual situation and recommendation regarding continuation to Class 1.

There are many Class 1 readiness indicators that our kindergarten teacher will be looking for, in order for families to make well-founded and informed decisions in the best interest of their child’s wellbeing.

Class 1-2

Depending on enrolments, we will be offering either a Class 1 or a composite Class 1-2 in 2019.

It is the ideal which is striven towards, that a Steiner school Class Teacher undertakes to be the teacher of a class of children from Class 1, throughout primary school to Class 6, unless unavoidable life circumstances intervene. This is a considerable personal commitment on the part of the teacher.

During these years strong relationships are built between the teacher and the families and children. The teacher becomes for the children an important role model, and the stability in this relationship from year-to-year has a strengthening effect on the children which can last into adulthood.

Classes 3-6

As our school grows, we expect to begin these stage 2 classes, adding a new year level each year until a full complement of primary school classes from K – 6 is reached.
